Nevertheless, at present, most of China’s TiO2 enterprises still adopt the sulfuric acid process to produce TiO2 due to the immature chlorination technology and the refusal of foreign countries to provide or sell the technology to China.
The chlorination process and the sulfuric acid process are two processes for producing TiO2. Nowadays, the ratio of chlorination TiO2 to sulfuric acid TiO2 in the world is about 6:4, and the developed countries in the US and Europe mostly adopt the chlorination process. At present, only Jinzhou Titanium Industry Co., Ltd. and other 2-3 enterprises have chlorination production lines among over 60 TiO2 enterprises in China. The reasons for this are that the core technology of chlorination process is monopolized by several foreign enterprises such as DuPont, and the R&D ability of China is limited.
