Imidacloprid is a systemic chloronicotinyl insecticide with soil, seed and foliar uses for the control of sucking insects including rice plant hoppers, aphids, thrips, whiteflies, termites, turf insects, soil insects and some beetles. It's mainly applied on rice, cereal, maize, potatoes, vegetables, sugar beets, fruits, cotton, hops and turf, and is especially efficient in seed or soil treatment. In China, imidacloprid is mainly used to control rice plant hoppers and aphids.
Imidacloprid is firstly manufactured by Bayer CropScience (part of Bayer AG) and sold under trade names of Kohinor, Admire, Advantage (Advocate), Gaucho, Mallet, Merit, Nuprid, Prothor, Turfthor, Confidor, Conguard, Hachikusan, Premise, Prothor, Provado and Winner. It is marketed as a pest control, seed treatment, insecticide spray, termite control, flea control, and systemic insecticide. Bayer CropScience is the largest producer of imidacloprid in the world, whose total capacity of imidacloprid technical is 6,000 t/a, containing the 2,000 t/a production line in India.
