Chongqing Chuanwei’s 10,000 t/a bio-based ethylene project passes inspections

On 6 May, 2014, the bio-based ethylene project with a capacity of 10,000 t/a of Chongqing Chuanwei Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd. (Chongqing Chuanwei) passed the inspections conducted by the inspection team from the National Development and Reform Commission. Meanwhile, the project was commended for its rational design and the demonstration project-liked high standard equipment and device. The successful inspection of this project will lay a technology root for Chongqing Chuanwei to construct the further bio-based ethylene industrial project of larger scale in the future.

By the way, this project is carried out by Chongqing Chuanwei, SINOPEC Shanghai Research Institute of Petrochemical Technology (SRIPT) and Nanjing Tech University. Based on the technology of preparing ethylene through ethanol dehydration in adiabatic fixed-bed reactor, developed by SRIPT, Chongqing Chuanwei has developed the industrialized production technology of bio-based ethylene, which has proprietary intellectual property rights. Compared to the traditional petroleum-based polyethylene, the bio-based polyethylene prepared by this technology has less carbon dioxide emission during the production, and its end product boasts better environmental compatibility.
