Rice is one of China’s main crops with a very large cultivation area, therefore rice has provided a huge market for pesticide manufacturers. And many pesticide operators prefer to give priority to pesticide registrations for rice as target crop in China. According to the statistics from the ICAMA in the end of April 2014, there were 1,089 and 806 and 736 registrations respectively for control of rice plant hopper, rice leaf roller and Chilo suppressalis Walker in China, indicating not only huge attention but also fierce competition in the market of rice insecticide. Some hot products take the majority, like imidacloprid, chlorpyrifos and abamectin. Besides, the statistics present pesticide companies' enthusiasm on mixed formulation registrations, which is generally seen in the entire industry of China's pesticide.
In May, there were two affairs about China's insecticide worthy of attention. One is domestic chlorfenapyr producers gathered to discuss how to solve the problems of overcapacity and excessive competition. The other is China's last dicofol technical production line in Yangnong Group shut down permanently.
