Although ISAAA reported a high growth of global planting area of GM crops in 2010 and 2011, Chinese glyphosate exports haven't seen significant growth in the past two years. Total export volume of glyphosate A.I. in 2011 slightly increased over 2010, but hasn't reached the level in 2009 and 2008. The stagnant overseas demand but surplus supply in domestic market have led to the long-term depressed price. Most glyphosate producers including listed producers suffered profit loss in 2011.
The serious market had forced some companies to quit the glyphosate business, and some glyphosate manufacturers have lowered their operating rates, thus resulting in the increase in industrial concentration. Some active glyphosate technical manufacturers forecast that glyphosate market in 2012 will be better over 2011. There is no doubt that the production cost of glyphosate technical will keep growing in 2012, and glyphosate industry will face many challenges. What will the future market be?
