Recently, Sina, one of the largest internet portal and media websites in China, shut down its agriculture channel. Many people feel sorry for it, but I don't. Internet in China has been developing very fast in the past years but the agricultural based internet activities have not developed fast enough. At present, there are many agriculture internet companies, but most of them exist on government subsidy or face many difficulties in their operation. The biggest problem for domestic agriculture internet is that they do not focus on the demand of farmers, but on people from the big cities. The agriculture internet company can't provide enough support for farmer's production and for the sale of the products they produce.
Of course, we can't blame this entirely on agriculture internet companies. At present, the internet penetration rate in China's rural area is only about 20%, while in the cities it has exceeded 60%, which hinders the development of agriculture internet companies. However, the fast development of mobile internet may be a turn for domestic agriculture internet company. Farmers may not be interested in buying a computer, but they will buy a smart phone.
