In 2012, China's pesticide industry witnessed a sound recovery both in production and export. In detail, the total output of pesticide technical amounted to about 3.55 million tonnes, up 19.0% year on year. However, the output of fungicide technical suffered a decline of 7.1% year on year to around 143,893 tonnes.
As to export business, China exported about 897,400 tonnes of pesticides in 2012, increasing by 12.7% year on year. Unfortunately, Chinese export business of fungicides decreased by about 8.5% year on year to 70,532 tonnes. It is worth noting that some conventional fungicides, such as carbendazim, mancozeb, chlorothalonil and tebuconazole performed worse in 2012, which negatively impacted the development of several domestic leading manufacturers.
As well known, the tide of M&A kept on going in China in 2011 and 2012. Moreover, it will still go on for a large number of agrochemical companies in 2013 to survive and develop better in the intense competition inside domestic pesticide market. It is not hard to see that M&A reflects a strategic transformation in the traditional conception of competition and it has become an effective mechanism of enterprise reorganization and capitalism redistribution.
