After a hard time during 2009-2011, domestic insecticide market finally sees some recovery this year mainly boosted by strong domestic demand. However, it is too soon to relax and domestic insecticide companies may face many challenges next year. According to National Agricultural Technology Extension and Service Center, the total national demand for pesticides next year in China will reach 334,300 tonnes with a year-on-year growth rate of 4.68%. Among the total, demand for fungicides and herbicides will increase whereas that for insecticides is predicted to decrease to 120,800 tonnes, down by 5.18% year on year.
Organophosphorus insecticide sees the largest decrease, with its demand amounting to 86,300 tonnes, down by 6.45% year on year. With the promotion of some high-efficiency and low-toxicity products, especially some patent products from overseas countries, the demand for organophosphorus insecticide has shown a downtrend in recent years. Therefore, management environment for companies with their main businesses focusing on these products will have a hard time day by day. Many of them will eventually be eliminated from the industry.
