China's biomaterials industry has achieved some progress in the first nine months of 2013. For example, domestic enterprises in the bioplastic packaging industry have made significant breakthroughs regarding the production of more environmentally friendly packaging in 2013.
Some companies also showed an active development momentum in Sept. 2013. For example, Hubei Guanghe, a new entrant in the domestic PLA industry, has successfully produced biological plastics in Sept. 2013.
As for the raw materials, China's PDO enterprises are actively establishing new biological PDO programs in 2013, trying to reduce the import dependence. Besides, China's corn price has decreased slightly since Aug. 2013, and may continue to be weak in H2 2013.
In Aug. 2013, the import volume and export volume of PLA both decreased compared to July 2013, and the import volume of dry cassava decreased month on month as well. Besides, China's import volume and import price of castor oil and its derivatives both decreased.
