Generally, China’s biomaterials industry maintained good momentum of development over the past three months. For example, Metabolix signed a distribution agreement with GreenBio to distribute GreenBio's SoGreen™ heat shrink film in European and American markets, indicating that China's PHA industry enters a new stage of development. In addition, the bamboo fiber industry also attracted the attention by the industrial production of a kind of bamboo pulp based modal fiber achieved by Sanyou Chemical. Besides, domestic PLA enterprises have been actively expanding their capacities and modifying their PLA products.
The dynamics of some companies in the biomaterials industry were also shown in this issue. YFY Yangzhou's straw-based paper passed the biodegradation test by Belgium OWS Lab in April 2013. Sichuan Vinylon showed its PVA derivatives in the 16th China Chongqing International Investment and Global Sourcing Fair (May 16-19, 2013). Also, the first phase of Jinhui Group's PBS program entered pilot production on May 3, 2013.
Due to the domestic economic downturn, the prices of domestic natural rubber and caster oil also decreased in different degrees since the beginning of 2013.
In April 2013, the import volume of fresh cassava decreased sharply, while the import volume of dry cassava remained high. In addition, China's PLA foreign trade improved in April 2013 compared with that in March 2013.
