Indonesia expects three new feed mills this year
The Indonesian feed industry will see the establishment of three new feed mills in the country this year, bringing total feed production to 18.5 million tonnes, from 17 million tonnes in 2012.
Last year there were 65 feed mills operating in the country, and this year will see that number grow to 68 feed mills. Desianto Budi Utomo, the Secretary General of the Indonesian Feed Millers Association (GPMT) said two companies that are setting up new feed plants are PT Cibadak Indah Sari and PT Satwa Boga Sempurna.
These companies are setting up feed mills in West Java and East Java respectively, with each plant''s capacity of approximately 20,000 tonnes/month for each company, said Desianto. "Two units of the feed mills will begin operations in the fourth quarter of this year," he continued.
Desianto said that in response to the additional feed mills being built this year, some established companies in the feed production industry were planning to expand and increase current capacities to allow them to better compete.
PT Cibadak Indah Sari is a long time player in the livestock industry. However before the construction of this feed mill they were only involved with breeding farms. PT Satwa Boga Sempurna is a newcomer to the industry.
The animal feed industry is seeing growing investments, as it grows to meet the demands of the growing livestock industry in Indonesia. The strongest demand comes from the feed consumption of laying hens and broiler chicken in the country, which grew nearly 10% on-year compared to last year.
