Sacom penetrates US, Kosovo markets

Sacom SpA announced its joint venture agreements to produce and distribute microbiological fertilisers in Kosovo and the US.

Sacom SpA, an Italian company leader in the production and distribution of microbiological fertilisers, and Agroflorence, a company leader in Kosovo in the fertilisers'' distribution, signed an agreement on Tuesday (Jan 2) to set up a joint venture called FERTKOS.

"Fertkos,"- says Gianluigi Torzi, CEO of Sacom SpA- "in addition to bringing obvious commercial benefits to both companies, will allow the introduction of the most advanced microbiological techniques in Kosovo in agriculture, which will help to obtain productions more abundant, healthy and sustainable. In fact the worldwide trend in the use for fertilisers in fact sees a gradual but steady fall of standard fertilisers opposed to the increase of bio-stimulants. Everywhere in the world farmers are increasingly converting their production to this new sustainable way of interpreting their craft. Sacom will always support this beneficial change."

The construction of new production facilities will begin in November. At the same time, Agroflorence will begin the exclusive distribution of Sacom products in Kosovo. The new initiative consolidates Sacom international expansion plans and introduces for the first time high tech microbiology fertilisers in Kosovo.

Biotechnology is the use of living systems and organisms to develop or make useful products. Humankind has used biotechnology in agriculture, food production and medicine for thousands of years. Modern commercial applications of biotechnology in agriculture are on reducing the dependence of farmers on agrochemicals and on better protecting the plants from the various stresses they may suffer. The microbiology fertilisers which will be produced by the newco Fertkos pursue this goal.

Sacom also announced on Friday (Jan 4) that it signed a distribution agreement with Credentia Advisors, LLC of North Carolina, USA to address and develop the US market for Sacom''s green biotech fertiliser product portfolio. The new partnership will introduce for the first time in the US market the Sacom Green Biotech System (SGB), an optimal combination of beneficial micro populations in a carefully managed system, which can rapidly restore a natural, healthy and protective balance to our soils.

SGB formulations uniquely contain especially balanced populations of three types of microorganisms which work cooperatively together to build a highly productive and self-supporting community. SGB formulations are healthy, natural, highly effective alternatives to chemicals enabling farmers to build up their soil health and grow more nutritious food crops with higher profits and significantly less chemicals.

The products will be imported into the USA from Italy but the company, through its collaboration with Credentia, will evaluate all strategic options available including US-based production options.
