Vice Minister Qu Dongyu met with Ricardo Negri, the visiting State Secretary of the Ministry of Agroindustry of Argentina, and his delegation in Beijing on May 5, 2016. The two sides exchanged views on enhancing China-Argentina agricultural cooperation.

Qu noted that China and Argentina are both emerging markets and the two sides have maintained close and friendly agricultural cooperation with sound development momentum. To deepen bilateral agricultural cooperation, Qu put forward a four-point proposal: first, build an effective bilateral fishery cooperation mechanism, deal with problems properly and strengthen fishery cooperation; second, intensify agricultural trade and investment cooperation, work together to build a favorable environment, increase the export of China's specialties of agro-products to Argentina and encourage more Chinese agribusinesses to invest in Argentina; third, enhance cooperation in biotechnology, livestock production, fisheries and veterinary service, among others; fourth, make good use of the joint committee on agricultural cooperation and relevant working groups and provide opportunities to develop pragmatic cooperation.

Ricardo Negri fully agreed with Qu on his proposal and expressed his willingness to work together with China to promote bilateral agricultural cooperation. He also noted that Argentina supports China in hosting the G20 Agriculture Ministers Meeting, and Minister of Agroindustry of Argentina Ricardo Buryaile will attend the meeting.
