Vice Minister Qu Dongyu met with Raul Urteaga, General Coordinator of International Affairs of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food of Mexico, in Xi'an on June 2, 2016. The two sides exchanged views on enhancing China-Mexico agricultural cooperation.

Qu welcomed Raul Urteaga and his delegation to attend the G20 Agricultural Ministers Meeting and expressed his appreciation for supporting the meeting. Qu spoke highly of China-Mexico agricultural cooperation achievements, underlining the rapid development of bilateral agricultural exchanges, fruitful S&T collaboration and steady growth of agricultural trade. Qu put forward a three-point proposal to further deepen cooperation: first, make good use of the bilateral agricultural cooperation mechanism, convene the agricultural working group meeting under China-Mexico Inter-governmental Standing Committee and the meeting of China-Mexico Joint Committee on Agricultural Cooperation at a proper time this year; second, intensify agricultural S&T cooperation, discuss the possibility of establishing China-Mexico Science and Technology Demonstration Center, and carry out joint research on pepper, corn and other crops; third, expand agricultural trade and investment and facilitate bilateral businesses to build closer cooperation.

Raul Urteaga agreed with Qu and expressed his willingness to work with China to deepen bilateral agricultural cooperation. He invited Qu to visit Mexico this year and attend celebration activities of the 50th anniversary of the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center.
