Vice Minister Qu Dongyu met with Jonathan Cordone, the US Deputy Under Secretary of Agriculture, in Xi'an on June 2, 2016. The two sides exchanged views on enhancing China-US agricultural cooperation.
Qu welcomed Jonathan Cordone and his delegation to attend the 20 Agricultural Ministers Meeting and expressed his appreciation for supporting the meeting. Qu pointed out that China and the US are both big agricultural countries with large population. The two sides should promote dialogue and communication on the basis of enhanced mutual understanding, so as to deepen the China-US agricultural cooperation. Qu noted that China attaches great importance to the issue of the US beef export to China, and he also hoped that the US could facilitate the export of Chinese poultry to US in a down-to-earth manner. China is ready to work with the US to build joint labs and enhance agricultural S&T strategic cooperation, in order to push the bilateral agricultural cooperation to a new high.
Jonathan Cordone agreed with Qu and expressed his willingness to facilitate the China-US agricultural cooperation. He hoped that MOA could dispatch experts to the US and work on the issue of US beef export as soon as possible. He also expressed his willingness to further intensify agricultural S&T cooperation and boost bilateral agricultural trade.
