Vice Minister Qu Dongyu met with Fan Shenggen, Director General of the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), in Xi'an on June 2, 2016. The two sides exchanged views on enhancing agricultural policy research cooperation.

Qu welcomed Fan Shenggen to attend the G20 Agricultural Ministers Meeting and briefed him on the developments of related activities. Qu pointed out that MOA and IFPRI have maintained long-term and sound cooperation. He hoped that IFPRI, as an open think tank, could play a better role in conducting cooperation and joint studies with China's agricultural research institutes, universities and agencies. Qu put forward a proposal that the two sides should give priority to farmer's income growth, agricultural environmental management and international agriculture competitiveness increase. Qu noted that the bilateral cooperation could not only help solve China's practical problems but also expand IFPRI's global influence.

Fan Shenggen agreed with Qu on the cooperation priorities and noted that IFPRI will consider listing the priorities into its research plan.
