Minister Han Changfu met with Kanayo Nwanze, President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), in Xi'an on June 4, 2016. The two sides exchanged views on enhancing multilateral South-South cooperation in agriculture, boosting financial cooperation, stepping up targeted poverty alleviation, and so on.
Minister Han extended gratitude to Kanayo Nwanze for attending the China- UN Agencies for Food and Agriculture Roundtable on South-South Cooperation. He appreciated IFAD's long-term efforts in improving nutrition and reducing rural poverty in developing countries. Minister Han noted that China has always been a strong advocate and chief promoter in global poverty alleviation. Since China adopted the reform and opening-up policy 20 years ago, China has blazed a way of poverty alleviation with its own characteristics. China is the first developing country in the world achieving the Millennium Development Goals on poverty alleviation. Over years, China and IFAD have developed fruitful cooperation in promoting poverty alleviation and social economic sustainable development in rural China. He hoped that under new circumstances the two sides could continue to expand cooperation areas and give support to developing countries in poverty alleviation and poverty eradication with targeted measures.
Kanayo Nwanze agreed with Minister Han and noted that he is ready to further enhance agricultural financial cooperation with China and intensify support for China's poverty alleviation, in order to achieve the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
