MOA senior advisor Bi Meijia met with Mr. Luís Capoulas Santos, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development (MAFDR) of the Portuguese Republic, in Lisbon on July 13, 2016. The two sides reached consensus on establishing bilateral agricultural cooperation mechanism and promoting agricultural trade.
Mr. Santos briefed the Chinese side of Portugal's latest agricultural developments and MAFDR management system. He underlined the diversity in Portugal's agriculture, and noted that China and Portugal enjoy high complementarities and great potential for cooperation in agricultural trade and sci-tech.
Bi Meijia agreed with Santos and proposed that the two sides further enhance cooperation in the following areas: signing the MOU on bilateral agricultural cooperation at an earlier date, establishing the cooperation mechanism and jointly holding agricultural products promotion events. He also invited the Portuguese delegation to the 14th China International Agricultural Trade Fair (CATF) to be held in Kunming in November this year.
Accompanied by Mr. Santos, the Chinese delegation also visited a number of pork manufacturers and fruit and vegetable processing enterprises.
