7th International Crop Science Congress held in Beijing

The 7th International Crop Science Congress (7th ICSC) opened at Beijing International Convention Center in Beijing on August 15, 2016.The event was jointly organized by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and the Crop Science Society of China.

 

Mr. Shawn Kaeppler, Vice President of the InternationalCrop Science Society, and Dr. Li Jiayang, MOA Vice Minister and CAAS President, addressed the opening ceremony of the 7th ICSC.

 

Dr. Li Jiayang noted that the stimulus of agricultural development in China is shifting from resource input increase to S&T progress. China is at the critical juncture of transition from conventional agriculture to modern agriculture.The agricultural development should focus on the goal of ensuring national food security and completing the building of a moderately prosperous society, and highlight the supply-side structural reform to advance agricultural modernization. 

 

Dr. Li Jiayang elaborated the significant role of technological innovation in agricultural development. He indicated that the remarkable agricultural S&T progress features enhanced innovation capability at source, breakthroughs in key technologies and improved efficiency of agricultural resource utilization through technological innovation. 

 

Taking "Crop Science – Innovation and Sustainability' as the theme, the 7th ICSC brought together more than 2000 researchers in crop sciences from over 70 countries, to share the latest progress in crop science research and discuss the future thrusts.
