BIOMIN inaugurates second premix facility in Vietnam at Binh Duong province

On October 2, BIOMIN officiated the opening of its second premix plant in Vietnam, a state-of-the-art facility costing over US$10 million, in Binh Duong province, southern Vietnam.

The 4.7-hectare fully-automated plant is capable of producing 6.5 tonnes of premix per hour, or 60 tonnes per day at full capacity. The premix produced for swine, poultry, dairy and aqua species will be supplied to the local market, as well as to Cambodia, Myanmar, Taiwan and Bangladesh.

Phuong Nguyen Quang, COO of BIOMIN Vietnam says, "Vietnam is an important market for us, and with the addition of the new facility, we will achieve a five-fold increase in total capacity. This also allows us to export to other countries in the region, including Cambodia and Myanmar."

With strong growth in the demand for premixes and the existing BIOMIN plant in Hanoi running at full capacity, construction of the facility in the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) in Tan Uyen District commenced on 12 May 2012.

The plant is equipped with a micro dosing system from Buhler and houses a laboratory with cutting-edge equipment, including a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) system. The system is able to identify over 300 mycotoxins, as well as pesticides and antibiotic residues in raw material.

"This will enable BIOMIN to provide the highest possible level of nutritional and mycotoxin analytical services for its customers. On top of that, the LC-MS/MS will also support the BIOMIN Mycotoxin Survey Program, strengthening the position of BIOMIN as the market leader in this field," says Jan Vanbrabant, CEO Asia Pacific, BIOMIN.

Nguyen Dang Vang, chairman of the Vietnam Livestock Association, noted in his address that the opening of a second plant in Vietnam points to the company''s success. Nguyen was present at the opening of BIOMIN''s first premix plant in Hanoi, northern Vietnam, which was also the company''s first premix plant outside of Europe, in 1996.

Indeed, since its inception in 1997 in Asia Pacific, BIOMIN has grown steadily in the region, especially in the Vietnamese market. With the new plant, BIOMIN is now the only premix producer in Vietnam with facilities in both the north and south, making the company well-placed to serve markets in both the north and south. Currently, BIOMIN is among the top three premix producers in Vietnam, along with DSM and Provimi.

Beyond economics, the facility is built in line with BIOMIN''s NutriEconomics® concept in achieving sustainable yet profitable farming in animal nutrition. ''Green features'' include solar panels to produce energy, green roof and walls built of autoclaved aerated concrete blocks to conserve energy. With the ISO14040 environmental management certification, BIOMIN is committed to manage its carbon footprint not only by increasing efficiency in animal production, but also in the production process at the plant by using resources more efficiently, says Andreas Kern, CEO of BIOMIN Holding GmbH.

Tran Thanh Liem, vice chairman of Binh Duong People''s Committee welcomed the company''s efforts in sustainability while operating in the community and referred to the plant as ''friendly to the environment''.

In addition, the inauguration is also graced by Thomas Loidl, Ambassador of Austria to Vietnam, along with over 250 VIPs, customers and government officials. In his address, founder of BIOMIN, Erich Erber acknowledged the contribution of BIOMIN''s customers and partners, "No company can be successful without successful customers and successful partners".

Indeed, 2013 marks the 30th anniversary of BIOMIN since it was founded in Austria by Erber in 1983. Today, the leading company in the global animal health and nutrition industry develops and produces feed additives, premixes and services to improve animal health and performance, in an economically viable and sustainable way.

With the opening of the new plant, among other developments in Asia, like a new facility in Wuxi in China, Erber expects BIOMIN''s business in Asia to double every five years.
