Vice Minister Niu Dun attends 13th Meeting of ASEAN Ministers on
Agriculture and Forestry Plus Three

Vice Minister Niu Dun attended the 13th Meeting of ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry Plus Three (13th AMAF+3) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Sept. 27th, 2013.

 

The 13th AMAF+3 brought together ministers on agriculture and forestry from 10 ASEAN countries, China, Japan and Korea.

 

The Meeting reaffirmed commitment to cooperate in food security, agriculture and forestry sectors, appreciated constructive actions for ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR), and encouraged the three countries of China, Japan and Korea to support the capacity building of ASEAN Food Security Information System (AFSIS). 

 

The Meeting acknowledged China''s efforts in hosting the 6th ASEAN Plus Three Forum on Biomass Energy, the 5th Roundtable Meeting on ASEAN Plus Three Food Security Cooperation Strategy and consultation on the China-ASEAN Agricultural Cooperation Strategic Framework.

 

At the Meeting, Niu noted that this year marks the 10th anniversary of China-ASEAN strategic partnership. "China is wiling to work together with ASEAN and its member states to deepen exchange and cooperation in agriculture and food security on the basis of equality and mutual benefit, and to provide assistance and technical support within its capacity," Niu said.

 

Niu put forward a four-point cooperation proposal:


 

1. To strengthen exchange and coordination on food security policies;

 


2. To continue improving working mechanism and upgrade the level of regional cooperation in agriculture;

 


3. To enhance APTERR mechanism development;

 


4. To continue enhancing capacity building and uplift agricultural S&T cooperation.

Witnessed by all participants, Vice Minister Niu Dun and 10 ASEAN ministers signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments of the Member States of Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the Government of the People''s Republic of China on Food and Agriculture Cooperation at the end of the Meeting.
