The 8th BIOFACH CHINA was held at INTEX Shanghai from May 22 to 24, 2014. Jointly organized by China Green Food Development Center (CGFDC) and NürnbergMesse GmbH, BIOFACH CHINA is the daughter show of BIOFACH, the world's biggest organic trade fair.

Covering an exhibition area of 10,000 m2 for 450 booths, this year''s trade fair displayed nearly 1000 brand products out of 142 types under 28 categories.

In his speech at the Opening Ceremony of the event, Mr. Ma Aiguo, Director-General of MOA Bureau of Quality & Safety Supervision for Ago-products noted that organic farming has attracted worldwide attention for following the principle of sustainable development in agriculture. It is a valuable practice in ecology conservation and reduction of chemical contamination.

For future development of organic food industry, China will adhere to the principles of tailoring measures to local conditions and conserving ecology, and at the same time China will moderately channel and encourage enabling sectors to speed up development. China will beef up production of and supervision over organic food to ensure sound development of organic food industry.

In recent years, under the guidance of relevant government departments, driven by strong market demand, and building on ecology, environment and resource strengths, the organic food industry in China has kept momentum of rapid development, and has become a sunrise industry with vigor and growth opportunities.

By 2013, the China Organic Food Certification Center (COFCC), a key promoter for organic farming in China, had certified 3081 products with a planting area of 26.447 million mu (1.763 million hectares) and produced by 731 organic food enterprises. The annual sales revenue of these certified organic products amounted to 13.48 billion RMB with an export value of 20 million U.S. $. In addition, up to 86 products produced by 14 overseas corporations have acquired organic food certificates from COFCC.

The results of the regular monitoring conducted by MOA have shown that, for five years in a row, 100% organic products certified by COFCC have been up to the relevant quality and safety standards.

During the time of the 8th BIOFACH CHINA, a seminar was held to offer domestic and foreign experts a great chance to exchange views on organic food industry. They discussed a wide range of topics, including policies and laws, development trend of global organic market, organic food trade, organic farming culture and lifestyle, and market analyses and expansion for organic products.

China has become a target market of organic food trade for countries around the world especially developed ones. By making the best use of this specialized platform provided by BioFach China, foreign enterprises actively promoted their products in China.

BioFach China 2014 attracted 325 exhibitors from 16 countries and regions including Germany, France, U.S., Denmark, Austria, Portugal and Republic of Korea.
