Minister Han Changfu meets his Russian counterpart

Minister Han Changfu met with Mr. Nikolai Fyodorov, Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, in Beijing on September 19, 2014. Minister Fyodorov was visiting China for the 3rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Ministerial Meeting on Food Security. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening pragmatic agricultural cooperation in the future.
Minister Han noted that both China and Russia are major agricultural countries in the world and their agribusinesses enjoy respective features and high complementaries to each other. The current sound momentum of strategic friendship between the two countries provides favorable environment to step up bilateral agricultural cooperation. In order to enhance the pragmatic agricultural collaboration, Minister Han put forward the following proposal: first, to give full play to the guiding role of the Agricultural Cooperation Subcommittee mechanism, define priorities of cooperation, facilitate the implementation of joint programs, and advance agricultural development of both countries; second, to encourage mutual investment and cooperation in agricultural sectors under an improved environment and promote agricultural investment and development in border areas; third, to facilitate the development of agricultural trade mechanism and boost bilateral trade ties; and fourth, to beef up coordination and cooperation under multilateral mechanisms, and promote regional and global food security and food safety.
Minister Fyodorov fully agreed with Minister Han on the above proposal. He stressed that the Russian side would like to strengthen communication and intensify joint efforts with China to promote the agricultural partnership to a new high.
Mr. Bi Meijia, Chief Economist and Director-General of the General Office of MOA, also attended the meeting.
