China Oct lignite imports down 17.5pct on mth

China’s lignite imports dropped 17.5% on month to 3.97 million tonnes in October, the second lowest this year after August’s 11-month low of 3.69 million tonnes, mainly due to weak demand, showed the latest data from the General Administration of Customs (GAC).The October imports represented a 3.9% increase from a year earlier, with Indonesia continuing to be largest supplier at 3.5 million tonnes or 88.2% of the total.Total value of the October importsstood at$191.66 million in the month, dropping 20.8% from September and down 8.3% year on year. This translates to an average price of $48.28/t, down $2.11/t or 4.2% on month.In the first ten months of the year, China imported a total 54.22 million tonnes of lignite, up 15.6% year on year, with Indonesia contributing 50.42 million tonnes or 93% of the total, the GAC data showed.Total value of the January-Octoberimports reached $2,845.84 million, up 15.6% from the previous year.
