On February 4, CNPC fire-fighting crew managed to deal with the enormous blowout and fire at well Osman 3 in Turkmenistan, which lasted nearly 3 months. Jumayev, President of Turkmengeologiya, sent a special dispatch to CNPC, which said, "We are sincerely grateful for CNPC fire-fighting experts and crew for their unselfish support in putting out the fire at well Osman 3."
On October 28, 2006, an enormous blowout and fire occurred suddenly at well Osman 3 located in Amu-Darya basin in Turkmenistan. The over 400-meters-long drilling tool was washed out of the hole by the strong air current, the rig was burnt into ruins in a short moment and a derrick skinner was killed. On Turkmenistan's emergency call for rescue at the beginning of November, CNPC immediately sent a fire-fighting crew composed of staff from the Great Wall Drilling Company and Sichuan Petroleum Administration to offer help to Turkmenistan.
Despite the extremely severe situation, CNPC fire-fighting crew succeeded in putting out the fire at well Osman 3 in close cooperation with the Turkmenistan and American rescue staff through two operations on December 10, 2006 and on February 3, 2007 respectively.
