Opening ceremony held for the construction of Second West-East Gas Pipeline eastern section

                      On February 7, kick-off ceremony of eastern section of the Second West-East GasPipeline was held in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province. Li Keqiang, Vice Premierand standing member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of CPC,attended the ceremony and announced the start of the construction.
  
  The pipeline starts at Horgos in Xinjiang UygurAutonomous Region and ends at Hong Kong, crossing 14 provinces, autonomousregions and municipalities. With one trunk line and eight branches, the pipeline has a total length over 8,700 km and will cost totally RMB 142.2 billion. It isplanned to be operational in 2011, and will carry 30 billion cubic meters ofnatural gas every year to Zhejiang, Shanghai, Guangdong and Hong Kong, amongothers. As to the 2,472 km-long eastern section, the investment is about RMB 93billion.
  
  Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commissionand Administrator of National Energy Administration Zhang Guobao presided overthe ceremony. Wang Yang, member of the Political Bureau of CCCPC and secretaryof the Guangdong Provincial Committee of CPC, Donald Tsang, chief executive ofthe Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Finance Minister Xie Xuren, DeputySecretary-General of the State Council You Quan, and Governor of GuangdongProvince Huang Huahua also attended Saturday''s ceremony. President of ChinaPetroleum Pipeline Bureau Zhao Yujian and Mayor of Shenzhen Xu Zongheng gavespeeches, on behalf of the designer and constructor of the project, and the governments where the pipeline passing by, respectively.
  
  Otherparticipants of the ceremony include: deputies from ministries and commissionsof the State Council, financial circle, energy industry, the 14 provinces,autonomous regions and municipalities, and Hong Kong Special AdministrativeRegion.
  
  CNPC Vice President Liao Yongyuan, Assistant President LiRunsheng, PetroChina Vice President Liu Hongbin, chief engineers Lin Aiguo andHuang Weihe, CNPC Deputy Chief Economist Wang Lihua, as well as representativesof the constructors were present at the ceremony.
