CNPC and RECOPE sign a supplementary agreement for a joint venture refinery

China National Petroleum Corporation International and Costa Rica National Oil Company (RECOPE) signed a supplementary agreement at Costa Rica President's Office on July 15. This agreement complements and amends issues on labor and leasehold of the joint venture refinery agreement the two parties inked in late 2008.

Upon the signing of the supplementary agreement, the RECOPE submitted it to the Costa Rican Comptroller's Office for further review, so as to launch the project as soon as possible.

In November 2008, CNPC and RECOPE signed an agreement in San Jose, capital of Costa Rica, to form a joint venture refinery. The project is CNPC's first in Central America after the two countries forged diplomatic relations in June, 2007.
