A morning earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale rattled the Pucallpa province in eastern Peru’s Ucayali region on Sunday
Peru’s Geophysical Institute (IGP) said the tremor struck at 09:37 local time (14:37 GMT) and was unnoticed by residents.
Authorities said the quake’s epicenter was located at 71 kilometers (44.1 miles) north of Pucallpa city, at a depth of 168 kilometers (104.3 miles).
According to Civil Defense authorities, there have been not reports of damage of injuries so far from the quake.
Peru lies in the so-called “Pacific Ring of Fire”, which is the site of 85 percent of global seismic activity caused by friction between shifting tectonic plates.
