Shanghai and Antwerp sign a memorandum of understanding for strategic cooperation on October 14 in downtown Shanghai at a forum held by Shanghai Chemical Industry Association (SCIA) and Belgium Chemical Industry Association. Representatives from SCIA, Antwerp Port Authority and Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT) attend the forum.
Antwerp is the capital of the Antwerp province of Belgium. The Port of Antwerp is one of the biggest ports in the world, ranking third in Europe and within the top 20 globally. With the support from local government and investment from global entrepreneurs, Antwerp has now become the largest petrochemical manufacturing base in Europe and the second large chemical manufacturing base worldwide.
Antwerp and Shanghai established twin-city relations in 1984 and is now celebrating its 30th anniversary.
CEO Frank Beckx from FIT and Secretary-general Tang Xiaolu from SCIA sign the memorandum of understanding on behalf of the two chemical industry associations at the meeting.
