It is reported that China has ordered metal plants to close outdated capacity by the end of September and dismantle it by year end.

The Chinese government has since 2009 set yearly plans to close outdated capacity as part of efforts to cut energy consumption and emissions.

It is reported that 654,400 tons of outdated copper, 260,000 tons of outdated aluminum capacity is ordered to close by end of September.
Other outdated metal capacity that was ordered to close was lead with 807,000 tons and zinc with 146,200 tons.

Earlier this year, the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information said they plan to close a total of 665,000 tons of copper capacity, 879,000 tons of lead, 273,000 tons of aluminum and 143,000 tons of zinc this year.

These moves are seeing as Beijing being more serious in tackling overcapacity problems in its metal sectors.
