According to data released by Taiwan customs, Taiwan's imports of steel bars totaled 17,600 tons in August, slumping by 38% from a month ago.

Meanwhile, the country's import prices of steel bars averaged at NT$19,027/ton, falling by NT$721/ton from a month ago.

Industry sources said that Taiwan's steel bar imports dropped in August as the demand from the country's screw and hand tool industry was weak and China Steel Corp. (CSC) cut its steel bar prices for July and August.

Besides, Taiwan's exports of steel bars decreased by 7.8% month on month to 21,121 tons.
