China’s scrap imports drop in September

According to statistics, China's scrap imports totaled 288,000 tons in September, decreasing by 3.4% year on year and falling by 14.4% from a month ago.

Among them, 196,000 tons were from Japan, decreasing by 7.9%; 49,000 tons were from the US, slumping by 581.9% and 15,000 tons were from Hong Kong, increasing by 10.8%, all compared to the figures in the same month of 2012.

In the January-September period, China's scrap imports amounted to 3.466 million tons, falling by 11.1% year on year.

In the given period of time, Japan was the largest scrap exporter to China with 2.093 million tons, falling by 5.1%; the US was the second largest one with 840,000 tons, decreasing by 17.4%, both compared to the figures in the same period of a year ago.
