South African iron and steel output down by 2.2pct MoM in July

According to the preliminary data released by Statistics South Africa, the country's manufacturing output grew by 5.8% YoY in July 2012, while the seasonally adjusted manufacturing production is estimated to have decreased by 1.1% MoM.

In South Africa, the seasonally adjusted production of basic iron and steel products in July 2012 decreased by 2.2% MoM, while the actual production index of basic iron and steel products saw a decrease of 3% YoY.

For basic iron and steel products, the estimated seasonally adjusted sales of manufactured products (at current prices) in July 2012 decreased by 1.5% MoM and were up by 15.8% YoY, amounting to ZAR 7.6 billion.
