Turkey’s flat steel imports down slightly in 2012

According to the data provided by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), in 2012 Turkey's flat steel imports, including hot rolled, cold rolled, coated and narrow strip steel, amounted to 5 million metric tons, decreasing 1.8 percent year on year.

In 2012, Turkey's hot rolled flat steel imports from Ukraine amounted to 812,696 metric tons, increasing by 7.4 percent year on year. Turkey's second biggest source of hot rolled flat steel imports last year was Russia with 527,669 metric tons, down 34.5 percent compared to 2011.

Meanwhile, in January this year Turkey's flat steel imports fell by 20 percent compared to the previous month and were down 0.7 percent compared to January 2012, totaling 355,777 metric tons. The value of these imports amounted to $241.7 million, decreasing by 25 percent from December and down 17.6 percent year on year.
