Description:
From 2009 to now, L-arginine industry in China enjoys a rapid development, posting a CAGR exceeding 15% in output. In 2011, the capacity of L-arginine increased to about 6,500t/a. Many production lines for L-arginine production adopting biological fermentation method have appeared along with the development of the technology, even though it's still no so advanced in China compared with that in developed countries. Its increasing popularity has become a trend in China's L-arginine production. In addition, L-arginine applied in injection production in China depends heavily on import because domestic producers' production technology can't cater for the demand. Then how is the development of production technology of L-arginine in China at present?
The demand for L-arginine is rising in China year by year, with about 18% CAGR during 2006 and 2011. The product is used in medicine industry, health care industry, food industry, cosmetics industry, etc. Among these consumption fields, more than 60% L-arginine is consumed in the production of medicines and health care products. With people's living standard improving, more attention will be paid to health care. Then what will the consumption of L-arginine be shaped in different fields?
Since 2011, the price of L-arginine has been running high. What's the supply and demand of it in China? And what's the price trend with supply and demand changing?
To show the actual supply and demand of L-arginine in China and dig out investment opportunities, CCM International's report mainly focuses on the following aspects:
- Current production situation of L-arginine in China (capacity, output and key players)
- Supply of major raw materials of L-arginine in China
- Production technology of L-arginine in China
- Analysis of L-arginine price in China (2009-2012)
- Consumption pattern of L-arginine in China (2011)
- Drivers and barriers to L-arginine industry in China
- Forecast on the supply and demand of L-arginine in China (2012-2016)
Executive summary:
In the past few years, L-arginine industry in China has witnessed a fast development. Up to Feb. 2012, L-arginine capacity has reached XXXXt/a. From 2008 to 2011, its output increased from about XXXX tonnes to about XXXX tonnes, with a CAGR of about XXXX. Based on this development trend, the capacity and output are predicted to hit about XXXXt/a and XXXX tonnes in 2016 respectively.
As of Feb. 2012, there have been more than XXX L-arginine producers in China, which are mainly concentrated in Zhejiang, Hubei, Sichuan, Jiangsu, Hebei and Jiangxi Province. Most of them are small-scale, each holding a capacity of less than XXXXt/a. In addition, almost all the producers except XXXX fail to produce L-arginine for injection production.
Biological fermentation method is becoming increasingly popular among Chinese producers. During 2009 and 2010, the output of L-arginine mainly came from the production lines by hydrolysis method, while more than half of its output in 2011 is produced by biological fermentation method.
At present, the supply of raw materials for L-arginine is abundant in China generally. Hair, feather and glucose are the main raw materials of L-arginine. Hair and feather are used in the production of L-arginine by hydrolysis method, while glucose is used as a main raw material in L-arginine production by biological fermentation method.
In the past few years, the average ex-work price of L-arginine is increasing gradually, up to XXXX in 2011, while in Q1 2012 the release of the new capacity brings it down to XXXX. However, the mutual effect of tight supply and strong demand will keep it at a high level in the following several years as predicted.
In China, L-arginine is mainly consumed in pharmaceuticals, health care products and food, with about XXXX tonnes added to them in 2011, while its consumption in cosmetics, feed and other end-use segments is relatively small. With the progressing development of downstream industries, the demand for L-arginine is estimated to reach XXXX tonnes in 2016.
