Executive summary:

China is one of the important producers of L-Cysteine products in the world. The production capacity of L-Cysteine products reaches about xxt/a in 2010 with output of about xx tonnes, most of which are exported. From 2006 to 2010, the capacity increased from about xx t/a to about xxt/a. During this period, the output has been dragged down by the impact of the 2008 global economic crisis, but gradually increased in 2009-2010 along with the recovering market.

Shine Star (Hubei) Biological Engineering Co., Ltd. (Shine Star) ranks top among producers nationwide, which makes xxtonnes of L-Cysteine hydrochloride monohydrate in 2010, accounting for xx% of the national output of five L-Cysteine products.

The production technology is mature, which is reduction method technology using feather or human hair as raw material. However, the technology is not eco-friendly. Oppositely, biological method applied in recent years can help solve the environmental problem, but in China it's still confined to research activities in colleges.

In reduction method technology, the raw materials mostly are human hair, duck feather and hydrochloric acid. The supply of raw materials is sufficient thanks to the stable population growth and stable development of duck breeding industry in China. However, the serious inflation since 2010 has been largely pushing up the price of raw materials. Besides, increasingly stricter policies on environmental protection also push up producers' production cost. As a result, the price of L-Cysteine products in China has kept increasing in the past two years.

In 2010, about xx tonnes of L-Cysteine products are consumed in different downstream industries such as foods, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and so on, primarily foods consuming xx% of their total consumption. Thanks to the recovery of global market, the demand for L-Cysteine products has been increasing in recent years.
