Vice Minister Yu Xinrong led a delegation to the World Food Programme (WFP) headquarters in Rome, Italy on 11 August 2017, and had a meeting with Mr. Amir Mahmoud Abdulla, Deputy Executive Director of WFP, on strengthening and expanding cooperation.

Vice Minister Yu spoke highly of WFP's remarkable contribution to food security in China and the world at large. He said that China's Belt and Road Initiative is highly consistent with the mission of WFP. China is willing to enhance cooperation with WFP in areas such as poverty reduction and agriculture, and share its successful experience and wisdom in this regard with other developing countries. The two sides could explore the possibilities to contribute to agricultural and rural development in countries along the Belt and Road through agricultural assistance programs, and expand and deepen the existing bilateral agricultural cooperation between China and other countries to a tripartite one that also includes WFP, enabling South-South Cooperation (SSC) broader and more diversified developments.

Mr. Abdulla fully agreed with Vice Minister Yu and extended his appreciation for China's role in addressing global hunger, promoting food security, and providing emergency humanitarian food assistance to Somalia and other countries and regions.

H.E. Niu Dun, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of China to the UN Agencies for Food and Agriculture, also attended the meeting.
