1st Meeting of China-Uruguay Joint Committee on Agriculture held in Beijing

Vice Minister Qu Dongyu and Mr. Tabaré Aguerre, Uruguayan Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP),co-chaired the 1st Meeting of China-Uruguay Joint Committee on agriculture in Beijing on Oct. 21, 2016. 

 

The two sides spoke highly of the progress in the bilateral agricultural cooperation and expected more pragmatic outcomes. The two sides agreed to beef up cooperation in the following areas: (1) Encouraging enterprises from the two countries to build up cooperation. The two sides will explore the possibility of building co-funded bases on crop production, livestock, agricultural products processing and fishery port facilities to achieve mutual benefits and win-win cooperation; (2) Enhancing cooperation in agricultural S&T. The two sides will support and encourage research institutions to cooperate in dairy, soybean, grass, biotechnology and seed industries to improve agricultural productivity of bothcountries; (3) Designating the Director-Generals of international cooperation departments of the two ministries as the liaison persons of the five-year plan for enhancing China-Uruguay agricultural cooperation.

 

Mr.Tabaré Aguerre expressed his appreciation for China's support to Uruguay in agricultural development, noting that Uruguay has made unremitting efforts in sustainable agricultural development and food safety. Uruguay is willing to further strengthen cooperation with China to yield more pragmatic results.
