Vice Minister Yu Kangzhen meets Mauritanian Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy

Vice Minister Yu Kangzhen co-chaired the meeting of the China-Mauritania Mixed Committee on Fisheries together with Mr. Nani Ould Chrougha, Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, in Nouakchott on May 26, 2016. The two sides signed a minutes at the end of the meeting.  

 

Both sides spoke highly of the achievements in bilateral fishery cooperation. The Mauritanian side introduced its newly-promulgated sustainable development strategy for fisheries and maritime economy for 2015-2019 upon request. The two sides also exchanged views on upgrading outdated fishing vessels, readjustment of fishing quotas, delimitation of fishing zones, improvement of cooperation environment, China's investment in Mauritanian infrastructure and provision of aquaculture technical support to the Mauritanian side. Consensus was reached on the establishment and improvement of the fishing information-sharing mechanism, combating illegal fishing and giving full play to the role of the focal points of the two sides. 

 

Vice Minister Yu also had a meeting with the representatives from the Chinese fisheries enterprises. He requested the Chinese enterprises to adopt active and steady approaches to the investment in Mauritania and urged them to diversify investment areas from fishing alone to the whole fishery industrial chain covering farming, processing and infrastructure construction. He also required the Chinese enterprises overseas to abide by and avoid violation of local laws and regulations and intensify work safety.
