In July 2016, the Yangtze River Basin was
stricken by continuous heavy rain and floods. What's worse, in early Aug.,
typhoon "Nida' hit southern China. It is known that disastrous weather and
warm-wet climate are favorable for the occurrence of pests and diseases. Given
this, demand for fungicides and insecticides are likely to rise in the stricken
areas in the short term.

Wang Jianwo, president of the Hunan Pests
& Diseases Control and Prevention Association, analyzed: "Affected by
severe rainy weather, we found crop failures in early rice. In double rice
cropping regions, with sufficient growth period, farmers tend to remove the
failed early rice for late rice, leading to a larger planting area of late rice
than previous years. We predict that there will be heavy occurrence of late
rice pests and diseases.
Moreover, given the great possibility of La Niña,
there will be more rains in North China, which can mitigate the drought and in
the meantime gets the region wet and hot. Therefore, more attention should also
be paid to the pests & diseases control and prevention in northern areas.'
"So far, there have been severe rice pests
and diseases, especially rice plant hopper and rice leaf roller. In the
meantime, potato late blight and corn diseases are likely to be more serious.
Demand for pesticides for the aforementioned pests and diseases may go up,'
disclosed Shu Fang, deputy director of the Pesticides & Spraying Equipment
Department of the National Agro-Tech Extension and Service Center.
As the floods in southern regions mitigate
and rains gradually shifts towards the northern part, there may be greater
occurrence of pests and diseases nationwide. Therefore, pesticide suppliers may
have to replenish their inventories to meet the increasing market demand. Yet,
the rise may be slight.
At present, the overall pesticide market is
getting flat, with weak demand for pesticide technical and formulations.
Notably, the sell-off of pesticides is still common in the market, which
depresses the overall market price. In H2 2016, the market price of pesticide
technical is likely to continue the downward trend.
In H1 2016, the traditional fungicide
market was in a downturn, affected by the rainy weather, sluggish cash crop
market, large inventories and replacement by new pesticides. However, some
still stood out with great demand and rising market price:

to tight market supply

Cyazofamid technical: rising market price
because market supply was restrained by production capacity and production
technique
In this context, despite the flat trading of other fungicides, the overall
Chinese fungicide market was in a better shape than other pesticides, such as
herbicides and insecticides.
