Hebei to cut 75.63 Mtpa coal capacity by 2020

Eastern China’s coal-rich Hebei province planned to cut 75.63 Mtpa coal production capacity in the next three to five years, by closing 141 mines, the provincial government said recently.By 2020, the province will cap its coal mines within 60, with combined capacity at around 50 Mtpa.Data showed by 2015, the province had 22 coal enterprises and 198 mines, with combined capacity at 124.16 Mtpa. In 2015, Hebei’s coal output reached 82.15 million tonnes.The province will no longer approve new mine projects in the next three years starting from 2016.The province will reduce coal enterprises to below 10 by 2020, and cap capacity of each enterprise at over 3 Mtpa. It will encourage large power enterprises to share equities with large coal producers. Unsafe and illegal operation will be strictly examined and dealt with. Inferior coal will be banned to use.Hebei will guide 74 mines to withdraw from the market, involving 51.56 Mtpa capacity; it will shut 13 bankrupt mines with 10.58 Mtpa capacity and 54 mines by consolidation and recombination with 13.4 Mtpa capacity.97 state-owned mines with 64.9 Mtpa capacity will be eliminated. The leading Kailuan Group will shut 38 mines, with combined capacity at 33.72 Mtpa; Jizhong Energy will cut 31.18 Mtpa capacity by phasing out 59 mines.In 2016, Hebei will shut 61 mines with capacity at 27.85 Mtpa, according to the government.
