Minister Han Changfu meets European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development

Minister Han Changfu met European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan in Beijing on April 18, 2016. The two sides exchanged views on deepeningChina-EU agricultural cooperation.
Minister Han spoke highly of China-EU cooperation in agriculture and expressed satisfaction with the cooperation in animal health, geographical indication (GI), compensation for ecology service and other areas. Minister Han noted that there''s great potential for agricultural cooperation between China and the EU and its members. The Chinese side stands ready to work with EU to continue widening and deepening the bilateral cooperation. He suggested that the two sides develop specific joint projects on sustainable agricultural development, training of young farmers and others.
Mr. Hogan fully agreed with Minister Han on his suggestions, expressing that the EU will actively work with China to develop and fund specific projects to further advance China-EU agricultural cooperation. He also expressed that he accepted the invitation to attend the upcoming G20 Agriculture Ministers Meeting to be held in Xi''an in June 2016.
The two sides also had an in-depth discussion on the negotiation of China-EU GI agreement, quality & safety of agricultural products and agricultural trade, and coordination within multilateral frameworks, among others.
