13th China Agriculture Trade Fair opens in Fuzhou

Co-sponsored by MOA and the People''s Government of Fujian Province, the 13th China Agriculture Trade Fair (CATF 2015) opened in Fuzhou, Fujian Province on November 7, 2015. Vice Premier Wang Yang gave specific instructions on leveraging the important role of the event to facilitate agricultural development. Zhang Baowen, Vice Chairman of the 12th Standing Committee of the National People''s Congress, and Minister Han Changfu attended the opening ceremony.
Minister Han Changfu noted in his speech that this year agriculture and rural economy have maintained a good momentum of steady development. The increase of grain production and farmer''s income has become a highlight in social economic development, marking the successful completion of the 12th five year plan and laying a solid foundation for a good start of the 13th five year plan.
In light of the "market-oriented, expertise-based, internationalized, branding building and IT application' approach of agricultural development, CATF 2015 showcased China's major achievements of agriculture and rural economy during the 12th five year plan period.
Minister Han emphasized that in the next five years, we will make all efforts to push forward modern agricultural development, speed up the change of development mode, promote innovative operations, and cultivate new-type agribusiness entities and skilled farmers. We will make better use of science and technology progress to propel large-scale, standardized, green and brand-building ways of agricultural production, in order to improve the quality, effectiveness and competitiveness of agriculture and ensure a rapid and constant growth of farmer''s income.
CATF 2015 reportedly covered an area of over 120,000 square meters, the largest in its history. There were totally 45 delegations and some 5000 leading enterprises and cooperatives taking part in the event, including representatives of national modern agriculture demonstration bases, and agri-businesses of brand-name fruits , geographic indication products, veterinary supplies and drugs, aquatic produces, among others.
Concurrent with CATF 2015, a high-level forum on IT application in agriculture was also held.
Vice Minister Qu Dongyu chaired the opening ceremony.
