Global High-level Forum on Tropical Agriculture Research opens in Haikou

Organized by the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences (CATAS), the Global High-level Forum on Tropical Agriculture Research was held in Haikou from January 24 to 25, 2016.

 

At the forum, CATAS Vice President Liu Guodao noted that CATAS will establish close and practical cooperation with international academic institutes such as the University of Greenwich and the World Congress on Root & Tuber Crops (WCRTC) in joint researches and technology transfer, so as to boost sustainable development of tropical agricultural industries.

 

The forum built a platform for the interactions and exchanges among domestic and overseas experts, strengthening CATAS's role in implementing the national strategies of "Belt and Road Initiative' and "Agriculture Going Global'. It will significantly facilitate CATAS's cooperation with international high-level universities and research institutes, and advance the development of tropical agricultural industries.

 

At the forum, CATAS and the Chinese Society for Tropical Crops signed memorandums of understanding on cooperation with overseas institutes respectively, highlighting applied studies of modern tropical agriculture technology, and upgrading of research capacity.

 

Totally more than 40 experts attended the forum, including delegates from the University of Greenwich, CIRAD (French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development), EMBRAPAThe Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation, the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture, the International Center for Tropical Agriculture, ISTRCInternational Society for Tropical Root Crops, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the African Agricultural Technology Foundation, CATAS, Department of Science and Technology, as well as Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs of Hainan Province.
