APEC Food Security Training and Workshop held in Beijing

The APEC Food Security Training and Workshop was held by the Agricultural Information Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS-AII) in Beijing on Sept.7-9, 2015.
Supported by the China-APEC Cooperation Fund, the event aimed to facilitate the implementation of the consensus reached at both the APEC Leaders'' Summit and the 3rd APEC Ministerial Meeting on Food Security in 2014. It announced to build up a regional platform for discussing assessment methods, policy and impact evaluation of food security, and sharing good practices of APEC economies in this regard.Mr. Qu Sixi, Counsel of MOA Department of International Cooperation, Mr. Ke Bingsheng, President of China Agricultural University, Ms. Feng Dongxin, head of the Department of International Cooperation of CAAS and Mr. Sun Tan, head of CAAS-AII, attended the opening ceremony.
The event brought together experts from APEC economies and representatives from the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR). Topics of themed presentations included food value chain development, market and trade, food security and nutrition, response capacity and prospects and food security case study.
The event also reviewed the experience and looked into the future of climate change adaptation and food security situation in the region.
Over 60 participants attended the event, including experts and scholars from Chile, Peru, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand and Vietnam, and a number ofexperts from domestic universities and institutes.
