China celebrates World Food Day

Celebration for World Food Day (WFD) was held in Tsinghua University in Beijing on Oct. 16, 2015. The event was co-organized by MOA, the State Administration of Grain (SAG), the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, the All China Women's Federation and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). 

 

Mr. Wang Ying, Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation, MOA, attended the event. He briefed the participants on China''s pro-farming and pro-farmer policies and achievements in maintaining grain output growth for 11 consecutive years. He stressed that MOA will be actively engaged in the implementation of the South-South Cooperation projects announced by President XiJinping at the UN South-South Cooperation Roundtable in September of 2015 to help developing countries reduce poverty, contributing to global food security and poverty reduction.

 

 

 

Several other activities were held as part of the celebration, including launching ceremonies of the "Love Food Save Food" publicity initiative and the publicity campaign of pro-farming and pro-farmer policies.

 

October 16 is designated by the UN as "World Food Day'.This year's celebration marks the 35th WFD, and "social protection and agriculture: breaking the cycle of rural poverty'has been chosen as the theme of this year''s WFD.
