China Shenhua Jun coal output down 5.4pct on mth

China Shenhua Energy Co., Ltd, the listed subsidiary of state-owned coal giant Shenhua Group, produced 22.9 million tonnes of commercial coal in June, down 5.4% from May and 10.9% below the year-ago level -- the tenth consecutive year-on-year decline, the company said late July 20.Industry insiders said the drop was mainly due to weak utility demand amid cooler-than-expected weather, despite Shenhua’s 5 yuan/t price rise for most thermal coal products in the month.During the first half of the year, the company produced a total 139.4 million tonnes of coal, down 10.1% year on year.China Shenhua’s coal sales fell 22.2% on year but rose 1.6% on month to 37.2 million tonnes in June, the tenth successive year-on-year drop but the third straight monthly increase. Total sales over January-June dropped 24.2% on year to 177.8 million tonnes.In June, China Shenhua sold 23.2 million tonnes of coal via northern Chinese ports, down 6.8% on year but up 9.4% on month. Of this, coal shipped from Shenhua’s exclusive-use Huanghua port stood at 13.8 million tonnes or 59.5% of the total, down 6.8% on year but up 16.0% on month.Over January-June, the company sold 97.9 million tonnes of coal via northern Chinese ports, down 18.1% year on year. Of this, coal shipped from Huanghua port stood at 51.4 million tonnes or 52.5% of the total, down 24.2% year on year.It didn’t import any coal during the same period, while total exports reached 0.6 million tonnes, down 33.3% on year, with June exports at 0.1 million tonnes, down 50% on year but unchanged on month.Meanwhile, China Shenhua generated 17.5 TWh of electricity in June, down 7.2% on year and down 2.0% on month, while total power output between January and June decreased 5.7% year on year to 100.42 TWh.Power sales stood at 16.28 TWh in the past month, down 7.4% on year and down 2.2% on month. Total power sales in the first half of the year shrank 5.8% year on year to 93.62 TWh.
