Vice Minister Chen Xiaohua meets Canadian counterpart

Vice Minister Chen Xiaohua met with Andrea Lyon, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food of Canada and her delegation in Beijing on June 17, 2015. The two sides held an in-depth discussion on China-Canada agricultural cooperation.

 

Vice Minister Chen said that in recent years, under the guidance and coordination of the China-Canada Agricultural Joint Committee, the two ministries have conducted frequent personnel exchanges and fruitful science and technology cooperation. The two-way agricultural trade has witnessed a sustained and stable growth and played an active role in bilateral agricultural development. Vice Minister Chen put forward a four-point proposal on further enhancing bilateral cooperation: firstly, to strengthen bilateral cooperation and upgrade agricultural science and technology of the two countries; secondly, to intensify cooperation in sustainable agricultural development; thirdly, to promote cooperation in the field of agricultural investment; and fourthly, to facilitate bilateral agricultural trade development.

 

Deputy Minister Andrea Lyon noted that China and Canada are highly complementary in agriculture, and Canada always attaches great importance to agricultural cooperation and exchanges with China. She agreed with Chen's proposal and expressed that Canada is ready to step up cooperation with China in agricultural trade, investment, science and technology, sustainable development so as to enhance modern agricultural development of the two countries.

 

After the meeting, Vice Minister Chen and Deputy Minister Andrea Lyon initialed the Action Plan between the Ministry of Agriculture of the People''s Republic of China and the Department of Agriculture and Agri-food of Canada  for Agricultural Cooperation(2015-2019).
