Shandong to eliminate 4.65 mln T of steelmaking capacity in 2015

Eastern China’s Shandong planned to eliminate 4.65 million tonnes of outdated steelmaking capacity this year, said the provincial Economic and Information Technology Committee in a document on May 28.The province also aimed to phase out 1.194 million tonnes of iron making capacity and 400,000 tonnes of coke capacity this year.All the elimination targets are required to be completed by end-October, according to the documentShandong has eliminated a total 13.2 million tonnes of steel and iron making capacity from 2010 to 2013, with more than 3 million tonnes of elimination in 2013.In 2014, Shandong weeded out some 1.3 million and 0.6 million tonnes of iron and steel making capacity, respectively.Shandong produced 64.11 million tonnes of crude steel in 2014, up 4.75% year on year; while pig iron output of the province was 67.19 million tonnes, up 2.11% on year.
