China unveils 1st batch of 2015 outdated steel capacities for elimination

China has unveiled the first batch of outdated capacities to be eliminated by the end of the year, including 4.67 million tonnes of iron making capacity and 8.65 million tonnes of steelmaking capacity, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said in a statement recently.Eastern China’s Shandong was ordered to eliminate 4.65 million and 1.194 million tonnes of outdated steel and iron making capacity this year, respectively, according to the document.Northern Inner Mongolia would phase out steel and iron making capacity of 1.4 million and 1.1 million tonnes, respectively; while northwestern Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region needs to eliminate 500,000 tonnes and 300,000 tonnes of steel and iron making capacity this year, separately.Besides, southwestern Sichuan province would shut a total 3.5 million tonnes of steel and iron making capacity from its Pansteel Group.Meanwhile, China planned to eliminate 903,950 tonnes of ferroalloy production capacity in southwestern Guangxi, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces this year, according to the document.
